As the New Year approaches we have begun to kick around some New Years resolutions. There are the usual ones such as working out more, eating healthier, taking up new hobbies and giving back to our community. In talking some more, we decided that we also wanted to consider what our "green" resolutions might be. This took some thinking. Most of us already use CFL light bulbs, unplug appliances when not in use and wash our clothes in cold water (as well as with Dropps). What else could we do?
One Dropps gal is moving in January and her thoughts turned to what new habits she could start in her new apartment. Recycling is a big one as her previous apartment did not offer that service. She plans to recycle bottles, cans and paper. Another resolution is to get a collapsible clothesline to cut down on energy use when drying clothes. She found some great clothes line options on www.breezedryer.com. One more resolution for her is to cut down on her overall trash consumption by figuring out ways to use less. That may mean buying more fresh foods from the farmers markets and less packaged foods. It also means bringing my own reusable bags to the grocery store. Hopefully, once she moves in, she can think about some other ways to conserve at home.
Over the next few days we will be thinking about New Years resolutions related to our mind, body and soul. Try to remember to plug something green into those resolutions, too.
